I first posted my opinion that .mobi is a money-making scam or at least a mistake in 2004. It hasn't been 2 years yet, but .mobi is an unfortunate reality. Except that you still can't buy those .mobi domain names they're hoping to force you into buying unless you own a trademark on it.
However, I do mobile web development, so I don't care about buying those domains for myself. My .com habit is bad enough without falling for this .mobi scam.
I see C. Enrique Ortiz is not falling for the .mobi scam either.
I am not surprised but am slightly disappointed that Neil Edwards didn't bother answering my comments on his .mobi blog. If I am wrong, I need to be corrected. Right? Until then, I still consider .mobi harmful and advise you to stay away from it unless their blackmail techniques leave you no choice but to buy the .mobi domains in order to protect your intellectual property. Unfortunately, the good guys don't always win.
